It's faster and cheaper for companies — and it opens the door for retail investors to access deals that previously required accredited investor status.
Unlike most private placements, LIFE financings are open to all Canadian investors — not just institutions and accredited investors. You subscribe through any registered dealer at the offering price. Shares are typically issued with no hold period, meaning they're freely tradeable the moment the deal closes.
Many LIFE deals are structured as units: one share + a half or full warrant. A warrant gives you the right to buy additional shares at a fixed price (the strike) for 12–36 months. If the stock trades above the strike, your warrant has real value. This is why tracking deal structure matters — the warrant terms define the upside.
